George Zimmerman was acquitted.

Part of me expected this outcome – despite all the progress this country has made in terms of racial parity, we’re still not “there” – and just looking at the incarceration rates, and the overwhelming, disproportional number of black men in jail, a small part of me believed that Zimmerman would be found not guilty.

But there was another part of me that hoped that the jury wouldn’t be swayed by the tactics of the defense attorney – namely trying to recast Trayvon Martin as a thug.

Part of me wonders why in a case of a white man shooting and killing a black person, did we have an all-white jury?

There are a lot of questions swirling in my head right now – namely, what the fuck is wrong with our country?

Why in 2013 are we reverting to behavior that was acceptable 200 years ago?
