By now the Newsweek cover photo of Michele Bachmann has been shared all over the Internet – I won’t post a copy because I don’t own the rights to it, but you can go to http://www.thedailybeast.com/newsweek.html and you can see the cover for yourself –
For the folks who didn’t see the photo, it’s an unflattering closeup of Bachmann with a crazed look in her eyes (probably due to an unflattering moment when she was caught off-guard, or because the picture’s too close up – I don’t know, I’m not a photographer). The headline splashed across the cover reads “The Queen of Rage.”
Now, I first have to preface this by saying that I’m not a fan of Bachmann at all – I find her to be divisive, inflammatory and bigoted. That said, this was a cheap shot by the people at Newsweek who exploited Bachmann’s unfortunate public image of being, well, let’s just say a little loopy.
But let’s be honest, this isn’t something that left-leaning female politicos or our current president have to contend with all the time – and the same folks who are crying “foul!” because Bachmann’s been unfairly represented, have no problem when Hillary Clinton is shown as an angry, shrill, castrating shrew – from the nutcracker Hillary doll, to the endless unflattering photos of Clinton looking positively feral; Bachmann comes off as loony tunes but Clinton comes off like Godzilla.
Still our public conscious has a short memory, and it’s been a whopping two years since Clinton was running for something, so the GOP is fine in sporting a mighty blind spot when it comes to their own behavior toward our folks.
